    The Master Business Licence (MBL) was the previous designation for the Ontario Business Name Registration product. It is now divided into three distinct categories based on ownership: Sole Proprietorship (owned by an individual), Trade Name (owned by a corporation), and General Partnership (owned by multiple individuals or corporations). This product is intended for registering a new sole proprietorship in Ontario.   • Is it possible for the owner and the business to have different addresses?
    Absolutely. While the owner may reside anywhere, the business registration address must be limited to the province where it is registered.
  • Who qualifies as an owner?
    Anyone, regardless of age, can establish a Sole Proprietorship. However, you may need to reach a certain minimum age to open a business bank account or enter into legal agreements for business dealings. Currently, there are no requirements regarding citizenship or residency to register a sole proprietorship.

  • Why is the Company Key NECESSARY?
    Your Company Key is essential for updating your profile with the government and protects your business information from unauthorized access.   • Why is the original statement of registration NECESSARY?
    To renew your registration, you must submit an original statement of registration to ensure transparency, adhere to legal requirements, and create a public record of crucial information. Incorrect documents may lead to delays and added fees. If you do not have this document, our registry agent can request it through the government system for an extra charge.

  • What is a NUANS report?
    NUANS, which stands for Newly Upgraded Automated Name Search, is a federal database used to check for any existing business names that may conflict with the name you want. When registering a business in a province such as Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, or PEI, only the NUANS Reservation Report for that specific province is accepted. It's important to note that a federal NUANS report is not valid for this purpose.
  • Has your registration expired?
    If your current business registration has expired, the government system will create a new registration document under the same business name and transfer your existing CRA accounts (Business Number, HST Account, Payroll Account, etc.).
  • What is the type of business activity?
    A business may provide its customers with services, goods, or a combination of both. Examples of services include professional and technical offerings, consultancy, recreation, arts and entertainment, and social assistance.
  • What activities should I document?
    Specify your main and most essential business activity (only one). Be detailed and stay away from broad descriptions to prevent any hold-ups. Keep it concise and to the point to speed up the process.

  • Why is it important to submit a notice of address change?
    Every business registered in Ontario must ensure that their corporate records are accurate with the Ontario registries office. You need to file a notice of address change within 15 days of the change happening. Not keeping your corporate records current could lead to penalties or even the closure of your business.

    Absolutely, you can change it. If you haven't set up a business email yet, you may use a Gmail or Hotmail account for now. After your business registration is complete and you have an official domain and email, you can update it on our website.
  • What Is an Address Service?
    The Address Service is a yearly mail-handling and document-scanning solution we provide for businesses without a local physical address in Ontario. This service can be renewed annually for a similar cost. All business or government mail received on your behalf will be scanned and sent directly to your email.

  • What is Registration Queue?
    You can set up a sole proprietorship in as little as one business hour if you opt for the fastest queue. Once we receive your completed order along with payment and necessary information, our team will process your order, register it in the government registry system, and email you the electronic documents within an hour. Keep in mind that the cut-off time for submission is 3:00 PM local time.
  • What is the renewal processing queue?
    A sole proprietorship or master business license can be renewed in two business hours, provided that all submitted information is accurate. Remember, the final submission time is also 3:00 PM local time.
  • Electronic vs. Printed Documents
    If you choose electronic documents, we will send PDF versions to the billing email address you specify. You can also opt for both: electronic versions via email and physical copies delivered by mail.
  • Why printed copy costs more?
    Once registered, the government sends us the electronic documents via email. As a result, we can offer you the electronic versions without any additional fees. However, using postal services leads to extra expenses for printing, processing, and delivery.
  • Mandatory Compliance

  • A registered business MUST obtain a Business Number (9 digit BN) to have the access on CRA account. We are offering it at a discounted rate as part of this package. Purchasing it separately will be at the regular (higher) price.

  • Every Ontario registered business MUST obtain a Company Key to access the company profile, file initial return and more. Please note that if you need to purchase it separately later, it will be at the regular (higher) price.
  • When you renew your business prior to the expiration date, your existing company key might still be valid, meaning you may not need to select a new one. Conversely, if you renew after the expiration date, we highly suggest opting for a new company key, as ordering it separately could be more expensive.

  • Why is a Business Number required?
    An incorporated business is REQUIRED to obtain a Business Number in order to access its Canada Revenue Agency account. The Business Number, also referred to as the RC number (RC0001), serves as your business's unique identifier with the CRA.
  • Why is a company key necessary?
    As of October 19, 2021, Service Ontario announced that all businesses in Ontario MUST secure a company key to manage their operations. This means that without a company key, you won't be able to make any updates or file anything for your business.

  • If you hire or plan to hire one or more Employees, you may need to register for Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Account.

  • Who requires a GST/HST account?
    If you provide goods or services in Canada and charge GST/HST to your customers, you must obtain a GST/HST Account Number. It's essential that the invoice or receipt for your customers includes the HST number. Failing to collect HST could lead to penalties from the CRA.
  • What is a payroll account?
    If you employ staff, including yourself, then you need a Payroll Account Number. If there are no employees, you can still process your own salary or that of a family member through this account to benefit from CRA's income splitting strategy. Keep in mind, this does not refer to a payroll service but rather the process of setting up a payroll account with the CRA.
  • What is import account?
    This is necessary if your company deals with importing physical products. It allows the government to handle customs clearance.

    This is necessary if your company deals with exporting physical products. It allows the government to handle customs clearance.
  • Do I need WSIB registration?
    In Ontario, most businesses must register with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) within 10 days after hiring their first employee. Certain businesses, such as banks, insurance companies, some hair salons, private schools, daycares, and travel agencies, may be exempt from mandatory WSIB registration. However, many employers in these sectors opt to register anyway to ensure their workers are protected. For small businesses and start-ups, WSIB registration is crucial for providing financial security in case of workplace incidents.
